Diversity Manager position for International Paper - Memphis, Tennessee

 

Description:

This position will manage the execution of the global diversity and inclusion strategy across the enterprise.  Responsible for development of processes and training to support the strategy, deliver training programs and track diversity metrics to link diversity’s relationship to business results.  Position requires the ability to build and maintain relationships and be viewed as a respected business partner that can introduce new ideas to increase diversity awareness as well as cultivate a positive image of IP throughout communities around the world.  Incumbent must demonstrate a high capacity for project management and event coordination skills to support forums, focus groups and training workshops.

•             Collaborate with HR and business partners to execute diversity and inclusion strategies that link diversity’s relationship to business results.

•             Consult with managers on issues that are impediments to diversity and inclusion.

•             Recommended and develop new policies and procedures concerning diversity.

•             Develop networks with other companies to bring ideas on best diversity practices to IP.

•             Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition to identify new ways to enhance IP’s ability to attract and retain diverse talent.

•             Implement outreach efforts to diverse community organizations.

•             Develop and deliver training, workshops and forums that will increase diversity awareness to all levels within the organization, including Senior Leaders.

•             Be an external ambassador and advocate for IP’s diversity and inclusion initiatives with appropriate constituencies.

•             Serve on the Thought Leader Team and provide leadership and support for diverse projects.

•             Plan and coordinate diversity events; forums, mentoring boards, focus groups, etc.

•             Metrics tracking and reporting.

•             Work closely with manager of engagement to identify and execute diversity related findings from Global Engagement Survey.

•             Important to stay current on best diversity practices in other companies.

The internal environment, including interaction with others, (both inside and outside the company) policies/practices:

•             Must sell the criticality of diversity and inclusion initiatives to businesses and groups that could be highly focused on critical post-transformation and other business concerns. Must be able to form strategic and tactical partnerships and influence without authority.

The work itself, e.g., problems, opportunities, change:

•             We have an opportunity to mobilize the organization around a broader definition of diversity than IP has experienced in the past. Leadership and persistence will be required.

Scope:

Provide data that describes or measures the position’s scope and impact on the business.  Limit the data to those areas which the position/role influences or impacts in a measurable way, e.g., expense, budget, output measures, quantity, quality, headcount responsibility (direct and/or indirect).

•             Enterprise-wide scope

•             The quality of IP’s diversity initiatives is critical to attracting, developing, optimizing and retaining the talent necessary to meet IP’s business objectives.

Functional/Technical/Experience:

•             Credibility with leadership at all levels, line and staff.

•             Must be able to think globally and strategically and have strong execution skills.

•             Strong knowledge of and commitment to advancing diversity.

•             Well-founded and experienced in diversity and inclusion.

•             Strong written and verbal communication skills.

•             Demonstrated ability to align projects and initiatives with business objectives; business acumen required.

•             Experience presenting to and influencing at all levels.

•             Experience developing assessing and delivering training.

•             Bachelor’s degree required

•             Technical HR experience is a plus
